So the things to look for — patients may present with bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome. They might have some sensory involvement or autonomic dysfunction.
They might also have peripheral polyneuropathy, which could also be a symptom of diabetes.
There are other conditions that can mimic certain symptoms, so it is up to clinicians looking after these patients to identify those symptoms and determine where they are coming from.
This may involve doing further investigations and referring patients to specialist centers.
Clinicians can also look at a comprehensive family history for hereditary amyloidosis. A thorough family history is vital to arriving at a correct diagnosis.
